Born to a mother from Jalostotitlán, Jalisco and a father from Yurécuaro, Michoacán, two municipalities listed as classified denomination territory, it was only natural that love and passion for tequila would flow through my veins.
Working as a chief of operations for an international marketing research firm allowed me to travel the country extensively before settling in Guadalajara. It was there, in the pearl of the Occident, that I finally engaged full time in my passion. Since then, I have never “worked” another day in my life. I noticed a need for a tour that felt less touristy and more personal and authentic; a tour that I would like to go on myself if I were a visitor in this land.
Hence, in 2008-2009 the Tequila Tour by Mickey Marentes started taking form, as I started attending seminars and classes and test-driving the tour with friends and relatives. June 2010, marks the official beginning of operations. Since then, the tour has been gaining impulse through the years.
My philosophy is simple and has always been the same: I love Mexico, its history and traditions and its rich culture and I wish to share that with you. I have gone to Tequila a thousand times, but for you it’s a first – therefore my goal is for you to experience it in the best way possible and make it a memorable journey. I am thankful for the help provisioned by those in the industry, many of whom became close friends with the passage of time and for their openness to teach and share and their craftsmanship, allowing me to pass it on to you!
I was born in the city of Ensenada, Baja California, the second child of the family. My parents, who are both originally from Jalisco had to move to the city for work. Living close to the border meant I was constantly travelling to the US; I therefore had the opportunity to perfect my English. I moved to Guadalajara ten years ago to pursue higher studies, I am in the process of completing a degree in sociology.
I started doing the tours as something on the side until it became a true passion for me. I am learning something new every day and I am fortunate to meet so many people from various cultures and from different regions of the globe. I have since made countless durable friendships as a result of such. More than conduct a conventional tour, I seek to make it a friendly and personable experience for you, something that will be the highlight of your trip.
I am passionate about nature; the feeling I get from being connected to great spaces is unlike any other. I have a particular love for a species: the Tequilana Weber, commonly known as blue agave, the plant from which tequila is produced.
I was born in the small town of Tepatitlan, a village nestled in the Highlands region of Jalisco and a 1.5 hour drive from Guadalajara. I have been dedicated myself to doing tours for the past four years, most specifically to the Tequila region. My specialty are the Jeep tours which allow for deeper access to natural spots that reveal the grandeur of the agave landscape, areas which are otherwise off-limits. I currently live in Guadalajara, where I am completing a degree in biology.
