Itinerary
Day 1: Machu Picchu and Wiñaywayna Hike
Your local guide will pick you up bright and early in Cusco and you’ll head straight for the train. A 3-hour train ride will bring you to the start of the Inca Trail in Chachabamba. You’ll start your hike after crossing the Sacred River of the Incas, which leads you to a passport checkpoint. A two-hour hike, which you can take at your own pace, will lead you to the huge natural terraces of Wiñaywayna.
Take some time sit back and take in the spectacular views and visit important Inca archeological sites. Later, you’ll have time to re-energize with a gourmet picnic lunch before hiking another two hours to the grand destination, Machu Picchu. Once at the World Wonder, you will have plenty of time to take it all in and explore. After a day of hiking, a bus will take you to your accommodations in the town of Aguas Calientes.
Day 2: Further Explore Machu Picchu
Your second day will start very early, but it will be worth it. You’ll take a bus to Machu Picchu, arriving just in time to see the sunrise over the marvel, a once-in-a-lifetime view. The rest of the day will be spent on a guided tour where you can learn more about the Inca Citadel and also exploring on your own. There is so much to see at this wonder of the world and you’ll have plenty of time to check out every corner. Once you’re satisfied with your visit, you’ll meet your local guide back in Aguas Calientes to take a 4-hour train back to Cusco.
Must be in good physical condition to hike mountainous terrain for 2 hours
Born and raised in the city Cusco, Peru, I grew up learning about traditional Andean customs, like how to speak Quechua, from my grandparents. Spending time with them taught me to cherish my culture and jumpstarted my love for ancient history. After high school, I decided to turn this passion into my career and went on to study tourism. I started out by helping lead treks on the Inca Trail. I loved being outside every day and sharing my love of history with people from all over the world. I quickly became a lead guide on the Inca Trail and even started leading other treks and tours around the area.
I’ve been guiding now for about 18 years and have led well over 500 treks in Cusco and the Sacred Valley, yet it never gets old. Join me, and I can show you the secrets and wonders of my ancestors. Let me take you off the beaten path, away from the typical tourist track, and show you what it really means to connect with nature. Through my tours, I want to take you back in time to the days of the Incan Empire. Step into my time machine and let’s explore!
