Description

Discover why Mexican Salsas (sauces) are a cornerstone of Mexican gastronomy and have fun cooking and tasting 10 different salsas. Learn the history, classification, uses, secrets and how to prepare your local guide’s special selection of Mexican salsas. The class will focus on the different preparations, cooking methods and the various uses of fresh and dry chilies. Enjoy a market tour (morning class) and a full lunch with street food tacos and appetizers with a choice of fillings in an intimate cooking studio.

Salsas to be prepared are: Traditional Guacamole, Salsa Roja de Molcajete (red sauce made in mortar), Salsa Verde Taquera (green taco sauce), Salsa Ranchera (chile, tomato and garlic sauce), Mango and Manzano Chile Salsa, Habanero Chile Salsa, Salsa Diabla (red hot buffalo sauce), Morita Chile with Nuts Salsa, Chipotle Salsa and Salsa Borracha (drunk sauce).

Itinerary

  • The experience will start by welcoming you with a fruit-based water beverage called "agua fresca" while you learn about the history of Mexican cuisine.
  • Market tour to Mercado de Medellín (walking distance).
  • Get detailed explanations of recipes and ingredients, then get ready to head to the kitchen for a hands-on cooking experience.
  • Prepare 10 Mexican salsas using various cooking methods including raw, roasted, cooked, and fried.
  • Afterwards, enjoy the salsas with street food tacos and appetizers with a choice of fillings ("carnitas", "cochinita pibil", roasted potatoes, scrambled eggs, sauteed mushrooms, cheese and cactus leaf)/vegan (zucchini flower, quelites, lentils, onions), paired with "agua fresca" and Mexican beer.

  • Previous cooking experience is not required; classes are adapted according to guests' level
  • Class conducted in English or Spanish
  • Vegan and vegetarian options available
  • Must be 12 years or older, minors should be accompanied by a paying adult
