Swimming Tour with Whale Sharks in Cancún

Get up close and personal with whale sharks in this relaxing day tour!

6 hrs

1 ~ 10

Medium content

Get up close and personal with breathtaking whale sharks in their natural habitat! On this tour, you’ll take a boat to a whale shark reserve and see these beautiful aquatic giants up close. In the morning, you’ll be provided everything you need to prepare to swim with sharks: a safety briefing, professional snorkeling gear, and even a small breakfast. Next, you’ll enjoy a relaxing hour-long boat ride to the whale shark reserve.

On the way, you may see giant manta rays, giant turtles (or caguamas, as the locals call them), and dolphins. The boat is also fully equipped with soft drinks, dry storage, and a bathroom so you can enjoy your time on the seas. After your relaxing boat ride, you’ll arrive at the whale shark reserve. At peak times, you might see up to 40 harmless, docile whale sharks, averaging 20-40 feet long, floating near the surface while they eat plankton. Now you can finally dive in and swim with the whale sharks under the careful supervision of your guide.

Once you’re done swimming, you’ll stop at the beautiful and world-famous Playa Norte located at Isla Mujeres, where you’ll enjoy fresh-made ceviche and corn chips for lunch. Relax and take pictures here before you head back to the mainland, where you’ll get a souvenir picture of your adventure with the sharks to show off to your family and friends.

Captain Gallo

I was born and raised in San Diego where at a young age I fell in love with the ocean. I started diving and got my open water certification at 16 there. I love the ocean so much that I studied Oceanography there too at the Scripps Oceanography Institute. Not many people has the abilities I've acquired through my life. While I'm not helping guide snorkeling tours I am a scuba dive instructor, a sailing instructor, and a windsurfing instructor too.

I was born Sinaloa, a state in the northwestern side of México, and lived there until I was 18 years old. Soon after, I got married. We came to Cancún to celebrate our honeymoon and never returned to our hometown. We have been living in Cancún for 40 years now! I love spending my time jogging every morning, sport fishing, golfing, swimming in the sea, studying mathematics, and spending time with my family. I am so lucky to have began my family and my business in this beautiful paradise.

The magical and breathtaking views of Cancún is what inspired me to begin my tours. I began swimming in the sea everyday to stay in shape when I began noticing all these gorgeous natural creations so close to where we were living. Then, I began inviting friends and other families to experience these sights as well. That is how I began giving tours; I realized I wanted to dedicate my life and my mission to creating and offering specialized snorkeling experiences to others.

Other things to do in Mexico
