    Cyrena and Francisca

Born and raised in the city that never sleeps, I found my passion for dance at the early age of 5. My hometown of New York City was the perfect backdrop for me to pursue my dream of being a dancer. I studied classical ballet at The School of American Ballet for 10 years and performed many times as a child with the New York City Ballet.

It wasn’t until I was a teen that I began to discover my love for Latin America and its dance styles. At 19, I visited Cuba and became obsessed with both salsa dancing and the Latin American way of life. Once I got to Mount Holyoke College, I wanted to keep exploring, so I left to Argentina after graduating and mastered my Spanish there. As soon as I stepped foot into my first milonga, a traditional Argentinean dance hall, I knew that discovering tango had changed my life. After that moment, I dedicated my whole life to perfecting my moves. Within one year, I had won the United States Tango Championship and competed in the World Tango Championship. Two years after my first visit to Buenos Aires, I returned to make it my permanent home. That’s when I started by business as a tango instructor. Six years later, I still fall more in love with Buenos Aires and tango each and every day.

Born in Oporto, Portugal, I’ve always loved dance. I have been dancing since the young age of 6. I may have started in classical ballet, but my passion for dance could not be contained. I started exploring different styles like contemporary, jazz, and eventually tango.

One day, I decided to try out tango and I’ve never turned back. I was immediately enamoured with this passionate and romantic dance. Since 2001, I’ve been a professional dancer and teacher. However, I also had other passions that I wanted to pursue, including architecture. As a part of my architecture education, I got an opportunity to study abroad. I immediately knew I wanted to go to Buenos Aires. In this city, I was able to live out my passions for dance and beautiful architecture. After visiting, I knew I would eventually move back once I graduated. In 2009, I made the move and immediately began my career as a tango career. It was the best decision I ever made. I love waking up every day and dancing through this beautiful city.
