Tour an Old Clandestine Detention Center in Buenos Aires

Learn the history of Argentina's Military Dictatorship

2.5 hrs

Buenos Aires

1 ~ 6

High content

Take an opportunity to learn from the mistakes of the past and educate yourself on one of the lesser-known horrors of history. You will visit an old Clandestine Detention Center known as the Auschwitz of Argentina, incredible art to ensure the lost are never forgotten and holds the stories of many who experienced the last military dictatorship that took place in Argentina from 1976 to 1983. You’ll come to understand the stories of the individuals, their history, and the struggles they represent. This center was a place dedicated to the kidnapping and torture of suspected dissidents of the regime. The massive complex contained areas where political prisoners were detained and brutally tortured.

Due to the archaeological restoration of the complex, you cannot go inside. The most interesting things are easily seen from the outside. These somber stories are important for understanding Argentina and give a visceral depiction of the wide reach of the military dictatorship in its ability to terrorize the local population. The kidnapped citizens were systematically dehumanized; they experienced atrocities and lived in terrible conditions. Your guide will depict the facts you need to know to understand the worst, most brutal, and most violent dictatorship in Argentinean history.

Good for Solo Traveler

I am a Buenos Aires native who loves interacting with people and exploring hidden gems off the beaten path. I love attending to smaller, more intimate tour groups where each tour is tailored to the travelers’ pace and interests. I am flexible, friendly, and love to accommodate to your needs and possible questions. My tours aren’t your typical “hurry-hurry” tour - feel free to take your time and explore! I want to make sure you will receive a truly personal experience with each new location. My tours include city landmarks that deviate from your typical must- see tourist stops, so you will have an authentic local experience.

I am certain that you will enjoy discovering unique places that are not on the touristic circuit or included in any guidebook like the places that the locals enjoy every day. If you seek off the beaten path locations instead of the common tourist attractions, love to listen to stories you might otherwise never have the chance to hear and are looking to experience the real Buenos Aires then join me on one of my tours for a very memorable experience!
