Have the chance to tour the timeless city of Managua, Nicaragua’s one and only capital city! Through this tour, you will actually be able to step into Managua’s past and walk through the streets of Managua’s old city, before it was destroyed by an earthquake. You’ll be guided by the Bosa Family as each member of the family leads a different aspect of your tour, from planning your trip to guiding you through Old Managua.
You’ll start off your day on Tiscapa Hill with a gorgeous panoramic view. There, you will be able to visit the Revolutionary Museum where you will be able to witness ancient relics, letters, pictures, maps, and ruins of the city. Here, you will be able to learn everything from the initial establishment of the city as a fishing village to the legacy of Nicaraguan revolutionary Sandino and former president Somoza.
At your next stop, you’ll be able to truly enter history and experience Old Managua. Old Managua was destroyed by an earthquake in 1972, but you will still be able to marvel the beauty of the ruins of its former cathedral and hear more stories of Managua’s vivid history at the central plaza. If you wish, your local guide will also be able to take you souvenir shopping at the local markets during your tour as well!
You will then be able to actually step into the old city itself at Paseo Xolotlan, which has mini replicas of the old city’s main streets and buildings before they were destroyed. Afterwards, you can also visit more unique landmarks in the area as well, such as the museum of the famous Nicaraguan poet Rubén Darío and a park made up of the mini replicas of Nicaraguan churches.
